While I incorporate typography into my graphic design classes as a major component, in 2013 and 2014 I have had the opportunity to teach a class called Lettering and Layout at Solano Community College. This course incorporates hand-drawn letters and basic fundamentals of typography and calligraphy as well as the digital aspect of the subject as well. Students create a poster of hand-drawn Drop Caps similar to those created by well-known designer, Jessica Hische - www.dailydropcap.com. Students also explore the letterforms of classic typefaces such as Baskerville, Didot, Garamond and Futura to create typographic posters as seen here.
